You almost certainly have to buy an 8V trickle charger. They make those.

The bright lights and perky starting made it well worth it to me. I never noticed bulbs burning out at an increased rate. I think automotive components are made with a healthy overvoltage capacity, and 2 more consistently doesn't stress them.

Lately I've started to see 14V batteries - same concept for 12V cars.
