On a B230FT engine of that era the distributor is nothing more that its name implies...no hall effects switch, no points, nothing. It is just a shaft turning the rotor to distribute the spark to the right contact in the cap.
So follow the troubleshooting guide in the 7/9 FAQ's or just start replacing ignition components (actually not being sarcastic) from most likely to least likely to fail.
Start with the CPS because it is never bad to replace it if it is of unknown age. Then the RSR if so equipped, ignition amplifier, etc, etc.
