Speaking of cleaning the flame trap-I dont know what oil you are using or how often you change it, but I started using DELO oil about 5 years ago in our '89 wagon, and my flame trap never needs cleaning, and I do check it. Of course I also change the oil and filter every 3k miles. I've heard if you use a good synthetic oil that it helps to keep your flame trap clean also.
