VIN Help 120-130

vin # is the 17 character number stamped into the firewall above the heater box as described by
Phil in and earlier email.

I don't know when this stamping was initiated but my 67 has it there as well. My 62, however, doesnot seem to have a vin # so when it was registered in California the VIN was 62 followed by the chassis #. That created a lot of havoc when I came to register it in Connecticut and was totally beyond the scope of thinking of the local/state authority who felt compelled to create a new vin for it using only the 2 followed by the chassis #. Of course neither of these numbers appear anywhere on the car so the next idiot who buys it and trys to register it out of this state will face the same issue again.

I felt lucky to leave Weathersfield that day with a set of plates of any kind. Has anyone else ever had a experience like this? What was the result?
