Similar issues on my end when I replaced the front calipers with junk-yard specials. I had also replaced the MC earlier and the records showed new rear calipers at 85K.
I bled enough to do a complete fluid change and tapped the calipers (garden sprayer pressure bleeder) the whole time. It still had a soft pedal. Drove for a week like that hoping the pads needed to bed in. Bled them again and enormous amounts of air came out of the rear calipers.
Pedal still has more travel than any 240 I remember (not really that much) but Art pointed out that my expectations may have become unreasonable since it has been 7 years since I owned one.
