"Sounds like it's almost as dangerous as the propylene glycol" did you mean Ethylene Glycol?
Propylene Glycol is used in situations where ingestion is possible (not the only use) like cooling in breweries and dairies. Pretty safe stuff for you and your animals. Seems to work well in fleet maintained vehicles, too (there is a MIL-Spec from ARCO that is used in Generators even in the Iraqi Desert). Not sure about your average user/car owner.
I use Extended life whatever brand mixed with distilled water.
