Figured I'd try my odds at a road test to see what is really going on.
I have to admit, the first time you push the clutch, and click the overdrive on is pretty dang cool. I've heard a couple people say that the overdrive is quite possible the single best upgrade you can put in these cars. I've got maybe 8 miles of seat time with mine and I'd probably agree. The noise at higher speeds was the primary reason I never took the 122 on longer drives or even on the 50 mile round trip to work more than a couple times per month. It's immediately obvious how much more enjoyable the overdrive will make covering any significant distance. My goal for 2012 is to spend more time driving the 122 and less time working on it, so hopefully this will go a long way towards that.
The sequencing seems to work as it should, with the exception of the lamp still flashing quickly if you try to engage outside of 4th. Not that I plan to make a habit of turning it on in any other gear, but in a no-load (coasting) test in 3rd gear clicking it on didn't do a thing, other than blip the indicator. If the solenoid is getting power when trying to engage outside of 4th, it's only for a fraction of a second.
Now if I could just find one of those nifty "O-Drive" switch bezels to use for mounting my little indicator lamp!
