If you have not yet checked the trigger points, it might not be a bad idea. I always found it easier to just pull he distributor out of the engine to do this. That way you can turn the shaft by hand while you have an ohm meter connected to the plug pins. The dwell isn't particularly critical as long as it is positively opening and closing each one. I always just shot for about 180 deg open / 180 deg closed. Each of the two contacts controls two injectors. You can carefully bend the static side of each contact to acheive the desired dwell.
