Brake caliper availability, 164E 140-160 1972

That's where I was going to suggest. It usually seems to be the cheapest place around.

1 caliper under $20 now (some sort of close-out with one remaining). Others at $25-ish.

Recently, when I was trying to buy a pair of calipers for my PV (later model 122 calipers) RockAuto showed 1 left caliper, no rights (or vice versa). And when I embarked on an epic journey through 57 other various US auto parts websites, I found that they all listed the same inventory, 1 left, no right. I got the impression that on something verging on unusual (like a 60's 122 caliper) that the inventory has retreated out of the retailer level, and all they show you is the inventory of some wholesaler. And pretty much every site I found was hooked to the same wholesaler, but despite trying to sell you probably the exact same single left caliper (1 in stock!) their prices varied widely. One place had a rather lax inventory system and let me order it, only to email me a few days later saying (wait for it...) they only had one left caliper, no right caliper.
