Throttle position sensor

My '84 DL wgn (340k) won't start. While doing my problem solving I found the TPS disconnected. It probably happened when I replaced the hose that goes from the PCV to the intake hose. I disconnected it for clearance and either didn't reconnect it or I didn't reconnect it adequately and it fell off. At first, my car would stumble when I started to accelerate then run smoothly, then it would sputter while driving down the road sometimes stalling completely when I accelerated, and finally it wouldn't start at all. This all happened over less than 50 miles. Did I fry something by driving without the TPS connected, or is it irrelevant.

Thus far I have determined that the fuel pumps are both working, there is no blockage in the hoses, and I have spark. Looking at someone else's post I disconnected the AMM and tried to start it without success. I will be doing a compression test today if only to eliminate a worn out engine (c'mon at 340k ya gotta admit it's a possibility!).

Any ideas would be appreciated.
