Do you have an owner's manual? I do, and also I believe you can still find one as a pdf at volvotechinfo.com, for free. On page 55, the Programming Instructions for the Shift Indicator Light describe the means of recalibrating it if the power has been lost.
By the way, the 240's ECU is instantly reset if you drop power to it. The easiest way to do that is lifting fuse 6 momentarily. No need to wait x number of seconds, minutes, or hours. It will take about 10 miles of driving to regain the adaptive trim afterward, so expect some possibly low or rough idle while it re-learns. Doing this by the fuse prevents you from needing to reprogram your radio resets.
