I don't think that's a problem with the Crane units.

It *is*, however, an issue with points. Not 30 seconds, but if you turn the key on with the motor off and leave it like that, there's a chance that the points are closed. This would leave current flowing through the coil. They're not designed for 100% dwell, and will overheat and burn out. I did this accidentally once when adjusting the valves. Messed with the valves for 30 - 40 minutes, put it back together, dead as a doornail. And of course, in troubleshooting, you tend to go back to 'what did I mess with last', and it was perplexing how adjusting the valves could have caused it to be totally lifeless.
