I hate it when people are not posting back about if and how an issue was resolved so I thought I'd reply to this old post of mine.
I made it home from that trip (April 2009) without further issues. I decided to swap the fuel pump relay anyway. No more problems UNTIL exactly one year later (April 2010) when, after an 800-mile trip I had the same problem of the car stumbling to a stalling stop and wouldn't restart. This time it was really dead. Put in spare fuel pump relay, no go. Had it towed home. This time it turned out to be a dead in-tank fuel pump which had strained the main pump enough to shut it down.
Going through a similar problem again right now, 2 years later. Not as bad but annoying. From the car's record I see that previous owners went through the same cycle of relays, pumps and AMM every 2-3 years. Hmmm...
