It'd help if you would state the model. I'll guess a 240. The year really helps to diagnose your problem.
Instead of asking, what symptoms do you have that give you cause to think the oxygen sensor on your Volvo 240 is bad?
If you have a 1988 or so and newer Volvo 240, you can use the OBD-1 system to check for faults. If it is a 1987 or so and older, you'll need a multimeter and possibly a 12 volt test light and continuity tester.
Oh, and if not already, get a Bentley, Haynes, or a Volvo OEM factory green Volvo 240 service manual.
Search here on the brickboard. Check out the FAQ at the top of the page. While for 700-900 autos, some of the same problem plague both.
Please reply with more info and maybe you'll get more help.
Hope that helps.
