Got my gold (coloured) badge in October 2012, from the Volvo Owners Club UK for £12.95 (member).

They needed a Ministry of Transport (MOT) test certificate, as proof of mileage.

The orginal 1986cc B200E engine lasted 495k. Now have a tempory 2316cc B230E (127k), while the origonal is being rebuilt and bored out as a 2316cc engine for another 500k.
