clean, clean, clean. And/or replace the float valves. there are two types, one type has a rubber cone that seals the fuel inlet, the other has a little steel ball that seals against the fuel inlet. I've had good and bad luck with both.

When you have the float chamber covers off.. first, leave the fuel line between them.

Turn them upside down (such that float valves are closed by gravity/the weight of the floats only). Blow into the fuel inlet. If you can blow any air through, you've found the problem. No added pressure on the floats. You can also manually lift the floats, one at a time, which should allow you to blow air through one or the other. Make sure they re-seal by their own weight again.

Also make sure there's no liquid inside the floats. (float turned sinker)

Others might recommend adding an inline fuel pressure regulator, set to 2-3psi. Might be worth trying, but I've never found them helpful, and in fact, they are the first thing I remove whenever I end up with a car so equipped.

But, they are cheap, and it is possible your fuel pump is putting too much pressure to the float valves.

Another thing to try first... before you take anything apart.. when they are leaking at idle, lightly tap on the tops of the float covers. If that stops the leakage, then you know your float valves weren't quite sealing.

Always carry a fire extinguisher.
