I may be totally off base but----I changed the rear end in my 1969 144S a while back. I rebuilt a 4.30 rear and added a used posi to replace the original 4.10. My transmission is an M41 J type. This is the first Volvo I've owned with the ribbon speedo and a 4.30 rear. I always used to read my speed at the tip of the ribbon--now the reading at the base seems more accurate. -- Dave
