OK, so finally I have ordered and received the parts to replace the front rotors and brake pads on my 1991 240 sedan. I got ATE brake pads, and Brembo rotors. I also got a set of the clip springs just in case, and two cans of CRC brake cleaning spray.
I have never done this before. In looking over the instructions and reading some more in the BB archives, there are still a few things I am unsure about.
I did not order grease of any kind. The instructions that came with the brake pads shows an image of putting some grease on the caliper, though I can't tell for certain where. Is it a special grease, and exactly where is it needed? A photo would really help.
Also, I read in the archives and now in the rotor instructions that I should measure the "run out". The comments in the archive suggest it is not really necessary- I guess different people will have different opinions. I probably don't have the proper tool, and of course no experience doing this. So, what's the practical advise on this? Could it be an adjustment that the tire guys can do for me next time I get tires? (which will be very soon).
I'm a little nervous about the brake line- worried it may not be very flexible. In the videos I've seen guys just hang the caliper nearby with a coat hanger, but just looking mine seem like stiff cooper pipe. I'm hoping not to have to disconnect any lines or bleed the brakes (at this time).
I've watched a few YouTube videos showing generally how to replace rotors and brake pads on Volvos (though none mention grease or runout) but maybe you can suggest one you feel is excellent/thorough?
Thanks,
Keith Ostertag
