960 upper head sealant application

Dear Marlin,

Hope you're well. Best of luck!!! I'm sure you got the surface surgically clean, so all should be well.

How long does it take for the sealant to reach full strength? I ask, because some sealants cure slowly, taking a few days to reach full strength.

There's a recent post - from a BBer in Australia - reporting immediate failure of a non-Volvo sealant on a 960 head. The work was done by an engine-rebuilding firm. I'm puzzled why a firm that re-builds engines, would - in a mission-critical application - use a non-Volvo sealant. Any cost savings cannot possibly be worth the risk. I'd guess this re-builder asked for trouble, and got it. They'll have to pay to have the engine removed, and - once they use the right sealant - re-installed.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
