Steering rack replacement 700 1990

Never expected this during the course of replacing my '90 760GLT steering rack. I would suggest the 700/900 FAQ be amended.

I just compared the removed and replacement steering racks, both Cardone A1 26 1993, side by side, aligned at the bolt mounting holes with a pencil passed through each set of matched holes. Previously, I had spray painted the removed inner tie rod/jam nut area, as well as measuring/counting per FAQ. I was now preparing to set the the tie rod ends on the replacement rack.

With the jam nut properly located on the replacement rack's "starboard" inner tie rod, a few observations were clear. 1) The replacement rack was shorter on the "starboard" end by 21mm. (I didn't bother to check the "port" end, thinking the same observation would be noted). 2) With the jam nut in a position matched with the removed rack's "starboard" end, only three good threads were exposed to mount the tie rod end. In my view, that gave me no comfort that would lead to a successful and reliable installation. But maybe I'm just fussy. 3) I felt that the replacement's inner tie rods movements are very, very stiff, particularly, the "starboard" rod. Should I be concerned if I find it very difficult to move by hand?

I have aborted any further installation until I discuss this with RockAuto.com.
For BB readers, am I too fussy and therefore worry not?
I would recommend that 700/900 FAQ include directions to measure length differences of rack ends from aligned mounting holes.
Rather than relying on counting number of rotations, in addition, spray paint the removed rack's inner/jam nuts, then transfer jam nut position with the help of a square.

For the fun of Volvos,
Mike
