Automatic shifter knob replacement problem 200 1992

I did get the entire shifter assy off the shifter shaft, but that's where the problem is. Between the center metal center shaft and the tube it goes down into, is where the little piece of broken plastic sits and stops the smooth operation of the center shaft's up & down motion when the shifter handle is fully assembled.
