Reverse lights 200

So after fixing a number of items on the 1988 244 standard shift that my kids have had for the last few years, one problem remains - reverse lights. I was able to reach up to the switch and replace the corroded wires. But the wires remaining, which disappear somewhere into the mid rear of the car, are also corroded. What I have now is 2 good wires coming off of the switch on top of the tranny with nowhere to go. Can anyone help? Can I run them somehow into rear and tie them into the wires that go into the rear lights?

A couple of fyis on the work I did.

I had to put in a steering rack. There are several different racks for this car (zf, cam, etc.). It seems that they are all interchangeable. It is just a matter of the hardware used to mount them, so go with least expensive. It was my first time doing one and wasn't too bad.

All lights in the car were flickering. However, when the alternator was brought to shop, it tested good. So I swapped in a known good alternator from my other 240 and the flickering stopped. The moral of the story is even if shop tests alternator and it shows good, it may not be. I've read somewhere that bad diodes may not show up on test.

Swapped out torque rod bushings, not too bad, but I found I had to get the car up pretty high in order to remove the torque rods.

Thanks in advance.
