Clunk at front wheels when backing up, problem solved 200 1982

I was worried about these clunks but less than my wife. She was worried a wheel will fall off.

There were many possibilities: - steering gear rack, inner and outer tie rod ends, ball joints, shock absorber top nuts under the hood and strut upper gland nuts.

Special thanks to JFH and Will740turbo for guiding me to the right track.

I jacked the car front and re-tightened the top nuts and the gland nuts on both sides. I was lucky I could slip a pipe wrench through the coil spring to do this. I suspect this gland nut to be the culprit.

Again thank you for saving me replacing the ball joints and tie rod ends which I was suspecting were the problem.
