northNH-I think you are describing the Smiths tach as found in the 1800 series. The accessory tach meant for the dash of the '73-'80 140/240 cars is different and has a +, a -, and a feed from the negative side of the coil. On its own it will not read correctly on a motor with a different number of cylinders. -- Dave
