Hello!
Rather new to the Volvo community. Literally picked up a 144 yesterday. Starting going through her this afternoon and already broke something. I noticed the parking brake didn't work so I took off the driving side rear wheel to check it out. The rotor is in almost new condition, as are the pads. Upon inspecting the caliper, however, I noticed that where the bleed screw should be there was a massive 19mm bolt instead. Having no idea what I was looking at or how to take the caliper off, I started taking the caliper apart (Forgive me for being a fool) starting with that gigantic bolt. I sprayed the seemingly appropriate bolts with catalyst and starting cranking. I then noticed that there was much more fluid dripping of the backing plate than what I sprayed on the bolts.
"Christ! that's brake fluid!" I thought. and it was. I put the big bolt back in as best I could and consulted my Haynes manual, found the proper bolts to remove and got the caliper off, as well as the rotor. The parking brake shoes are...half worn? The forward shoe looks pretty good, the rear one is basically down to the metal.
So question number one; where the hell do I find the proper parking brake pads? I have some for a '74 244 which seems like they may fit but I want to be sure before I buy them.
Anyways, on with my tale of woe, so I adjusted the p-brake hoping I could get away with that so I started reassembling everything. Thought I should probably bleed the brakes, at least the one I was working on, while I was there. I called my father out to give me a hand. I left the big bolt loose while I stepped on the pedal and I wasn't getting bubbles or break in drip through it so I thought it was okay and tightened the bolt. I had him pump the brake to build pressure but the bolt kept bleeding fluid! and so regardless of how tight the bolt was. It got to point that I tighten it so much, I broke the side of the caliper off, rendering it useless. I've ordered a Centric Girling caliper, I believe I have ATEs on currently. I was told by the gentlemen I bought the car from that there won't be an issue and I'm inclined to believe him as he is a Volvo enthusiast.
But still, question number two; Will there be an issue and is there anything else I should check and most likely replace while I'm searching for parts?
Any information or links or anything is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

PS - Please excuse any and all grammar mistakes. It's late and I'm tired :P
