Hi Tom, you hit on exactly the reasons I have a Cherokee, they are the closest thing to a 245 on the planet, they even have an AW transmission in the ones with an autobox. '98-'99 are the prime years, with '00 and '01 getting a weaker low pinion D-30 front axle. Very easy to work on and parts are readily available even though the dealers have pretty much abandoned the model.
