Winter tires 900 1994

I have a 94 940 wagon, 250,000 miles that runs great. I will be commuting with it between CT and ME twice a week this winter. The round trip mileage is approximately 500 miles.
Since it only saw occasional use during the winter, snow tires weren't an issue. That's about to change.
Questions I have:
1. Stud or go with stud less tires?
2. What brands would you recommend that have worked for you on the 940?
