91 245 cruise control inoperable

Thanks Dan,

I think the battery lamp is OK. The problem I had was intermittent and each time it happened the car had sat idle for a week or so, 3 times over a couple of years.

Symptoms were no dash lights when the key was turned on, start and run normally with a dim battery light and the OD light on. When I turned the OD light off, the battery light would come full on.

The first couple of times I removed the cluster, cleaned contacts put it back and it would be normal. The last time it happened, it wouldn't respond, and that's when I tried the 87 cluster. It's been normal for about 6 months, except for the cruise issue.

I remember reading a post where Mr. Benstein and someone else had a long conversation about a similar complaint. If I remember right the solution was bad contacts at the plastic strip by the speedometer.

I'll return to my original intention which was to resolder the PCB. I made an honest effort when this problem arose to try and solve it by understanding the circuitry, but unfortunaly I often get bogged down in Mr. Bentleys diagrams. When the 87 cluster got the car rolling, I took the path of least resistance like the current is doing and forgot about it.
