Auxillary Air Valve

Frozen AAV's in these cars are about as common as frozen clocks. ;) You can try freeing it up by soaking in a lubricant overnight or putting it in boiling water. This never worked for me, but some have reported success... Rebuilding is also possible, though from what I've heard fixes are short-lived.

A lot of people simply plug-up the ports and baby the gas a bit off cold starts.

In the next generation of Bosch FI's they switched to electric-powered AVV's. This improved reliability tenfold. These will work in 1800's but you need to re-plum the hoses and run new power leads. The Part ID is: Bosch 0280140100.
