1990 760 t no fuel

not sure of procedure but i disconnected the fuel supply line to the rail ,turned on key ,pump ran but not much fuel came out and certainly not under pressure ,just a trickle , after cycling pump 4 times i got about half cup of fuel ,should the fuel come out under a lot of pressure/?
