Chuck, thanks for the response and info! I searched your part number and it did come up for the ZF trans. Just about all listed the whole trans, one gave a price of about $1600 but also said obsolete part unavailable. So I was on the right track. I searched "flex plate" for my year 740 and it came up from Partsgeek. They show a flex plate available and the info window said 87 740 automatic but it didn't give any more fitment info. The price was $130 with free shipping. I'm thinking I'll have to have one of my two shops raise it up and pull the inspection/vent grills off the bellhousing and look to see if it is a replaceable flex plate. I'm finding conflicting info. Some say only manuals are separate and replaceable and some say the auto is also. If my flex plate is separate from the flywheel and torque converter, then the Partsgeek unit should work. Either shop is willing to pull the trans/torque converter/flywheel and do the job. And stick in a fresh rear main oil seal and starter bendix. Not looking forward to the $$ but it needs done and we're not about to part with the car. Chuck, thanks much for your input!
Roger
