1973 164 Ignition Points 140-160 1973

Agree. From an engineering point of view a condenser is required for proper operation and it is not just about making a spark in the engine. There is virtually no difference between ignition coils of old cars, so yes the exact size of condenser does not really matter. The condenser is removed when you change to electronic ignition because the points are used as a sensor instead of breaking current flow in the ignition coil primary, on a normal ignition system you should keep the condenser.
