Original lighter sockets have only 1 wire which is power to the center stud of the lighter socket and is usually connected to the ignition switch.

The socket is grounded through the dash by it physical connection. It is sometimes necessary to remove the lighter socket to clean the area where the ground connection is made at the dash.
