Source Needed For '89 Wagon 5-speed Transmission in NYC area...

hi sages- i have been concerned about this too since acquiring the 92 245 4 years ago.always want to have a backup plan ready to go if the first one doesnt work. the m47 presently works fine, but as you all know the day will come. go into junk yards 1-2 times a month looking for various parts but never have seen any m47s in or out of the car. wonder if it would be a better approach to find a mechanic who knows how to take apart these m47s and replace parts. past experience tells me the common parts to go to hell first in a manual trans are the input shaft bearing and other parts associated with 1st gear. have not found mechanic or shop yet who is willing and able to do this job without sending me to the poor house. anybody here ever been to the poor house? let me know if you found such a mechanic. thanks tons oldduke
