240 lower steering shaft

I know exactly what you mean because I had the same problem with my VolvOldsmobile conversion (1963 Olds F85 215 aluminum V8 in a '76 265). I believe the shaft is bonded - maybe for safety--maybe for vibration control? There is a solid shaft available and I probably have one in my collection. I'll look. I'm redoing the conversion--originally with the Olds Hydramatic -- now in a '93 245 with a Camaro T5. Been a long hard slog. Other projects always seem to get in the way and the '93 wasn't a great choice (but one I couldn't refuse) because they integrated the entire wire harness along with the Jetronic injection stuff for that one year. -- Dave
