Try this thread. I think the clock spring is the same on 940's as 240's.

Went through a similar situation with my 90 244DL some years ago. At the time, it was very hard to find info on resetting my clock spring. I ended up turning off the light and living without the air bag since the car had over 200k. Assumed since 240's were engineered without the air bag originally they are probably pretty safe with no air bag...:)
