Gear selector replacement S90-V90 1997

The gear selector in my daughter's 1997 S90 will occasionally (every few months) not go into the park position. I've gotten so I can resolve the problem within 10 minutes by lifting the shifter bezel and pushing back a sliding plate that blocks park. The fix usually last for a few months. I've decided to really fix the problem by replacing the shifter unit (if it's not NLA), but haven't yet been able to find a description of what in entails. How difficult is it?
