Rough Idle 200

My 1983 242 has recently developed a rough idle condition - especially when cold. It seems fine when above idle. I was thinking maybe it was an issue with timing or the O2 sensor. But a knowledgeable friend has suggested that it looks to him like part of the intake manifold gasket near #1 port is missing and maybe causing this problem. Is this a common issue with these cars? I am sure mine is original.

Before I go ahead and spend the time/money replacing the gasket, I thought I would ask.
