Hi Ben,

The wiper parking circuit is one I mention as having come over with Columbus or words to that effect in here. See if this still applies to your '69 vintage Volvo as I suspect. The parking depends on a contact which takes the motor to ground at the point where it should park, acting as a brake. The ground is a frequent location of failure in the 240 application:
