Help. Can't figure out this stalling problem. 700

On a whim I changed the ignition coil after the car still stalled after changing the dist and power stage ( since I had a spare coil). So far the car hasn't stalled and is running well. The coil I took out could be the original ? I have never seen a coil go bad like that and wouldn't have suspected it. Anyone see a coil do that before ? I will drive the car over the next few days and post back. Hopefully the stalling problem is solved ???
