If I ripped up my 'finished' basement, I could easily run a 240V line to the garage. But we have 2 cars. Does that mean that I need 2 separate outlets? I don't know how much amperage the charging mechanism requires.

I am not as concerned about charging a car at home as I am concerned about people who need a charge that park on the street or apartment parking lots.

As for hybrid cars with a transmission, differential, AND an electric motor to run those, it is just too complex and totally unnecessary. An onboard generator makes much more sense. Besides, cruising all day at 70mph (which we do here in the Midwest), pulling a boat trailer, kind of defeats the purpose of a hybrid. All electric will not work with real distance travel.

In Europe, a long trip is 4-5 hours. In the USA, a long trip is 12-15 hours. Electric might be great for commuter cars, or those who live on the East coast between Boston and DC, but it won't work for the rest of the country.
