Extra rambling........ The foot switch is pretty heavy duty. It has to survive attempts to kick it to death. It may also have to cope with wet snowy boots and water leakage down the inner bulkhead. Not an ideal situation for something electrical. Some have screw fittings for the wires and some male tabs. Volvo used screws. Unless too far gone they benefit from a good service/clean and some contact spray. A bit of silicone grease useful plus you can cut out a circle of rubber about 3mm thick which will fit neatly inside the case and give the works some protection. Some replacement switches are lozenge shaped and have a cast case. Not original but work OK. If you have carpets over the rubber mats you can make the switch easier to find by putting a walking stick rubber ferrule over the top. The rounded ones with the small bobbles on work well. Washers inside can adjust the height to your liking.
