Ah, no blinding polished metal! Good. The lump profile of the trim will be all you're missing, and I can't imagine there's any benefit to that bit of wind resistance.
That rubber thing I probably shouldn't have called trim. More like a cushion or dam. It is the rubber you can see just above the frame opening in this photo from http://cleanflametrap.com/windshield.html

Regarding the A-pillar trim, I think yours comes off like this if the transition from external to hidden pins was made in '81. The lip is under the U-bead covering the door frame pinchweld. Could be brittle.

8/21? That's when the sun, moon, and stars are out all at once. For a couple minutes anyway. In S.C. South of Greenville a bit.
