Forgot which hose goes where on the heater core

Hi,

I have 92 740. I am currently replacing my heater core as it exploded on me this summer.I by passed it for the last month and decided this was the weekend to tackle it.

After 6 hours I was able to get the old one out and the new one in. Yay! I was thinking I would connect the hoses in the engine compartment to the heater core nipples at the firewall, start the car and pressure test it before I put it all back together. I have forgotten which hose goes on top and which goes on bottom though. Can someone help me? One hose has the heater control valve attached to it. Does that one go on the bottom??

Also, anyone familiar with the job, the replacement heater core didnt quite fit as good as the original. The nipples going through the fire wall do not extend as far out. I have about 3/4-1 inch to connect the hoses to. Will that be sufficient??
