Rough start 200

Hi,

Imagine a PNP or a good auto recycler merchant might be the best place to find one.
I have not looked into any 1993 wagons to know if they used the vinyl stretch type like in the eighties or one in the sedans that are of a hard blown material.
You might try asking the people down in Georgia, I think? Voluparts or something?
They have been mentioned, in several posts by BB member, CB I think? Check his profile of posts!

If you need hard to find parts their website shows big buildings storing them.

I can relate to the clearcoat peeling issue.
My first ever Volvo that I still have is 1978 GT Silver and it had that clear coat junk! Silver, I later found out,was the worst for peeling due to the double reaction of the suns rays going through it twice.
I had the car repainted in about 1982 for a total of $400. Compared to today that was a real bargain. This was with the newest paint at the time that 18 wheelers where using. It is a single stage urethane called DuPont Imron.
Now you pay that much just for the paint, I have been told! (:-(

If it’s like the old days with that stuff, you might have trouble finding anyone too shoot it!
Back then, it required that the painter use special filters. Then, Sometime after that, I have heard, that they must have his own seperate air supply to breathe from!
I think DuPont may have reduced the issue with because urethane has had competition with water borne paints that are environmentally conscious, versus someone going unconscious!
Now with robots and air scavenging equipment, I have no idea what they are using?

The clear coats acted just like the plastic headlights do today.
If you have noticed, the outer plastic surfaces go dull first on the upper sides that get the rays during the high points of the suns arc.
If the silver reflector is very close to the inside surfaces of the plastic, it will go into a hazy fog faster or should I say, even first.
The whole styling thing with plastic is really getting disgusting!
Just like the newer paints peeled to primer and clear coats left faded colors.
We see it was just the tip of the iceberg.

In a few years, the blown foam cars will be melted down instead of crushed! The GM company and Saturn cars opened that door!

Good luck on your endeavors to renovate 12 cars!
It sounds like a career!
(:-)

Phil
