Taper thread on cylinder head heater outlet?

Many thanks for these replies. I was a little concerned - steel thread into an aluminium head, and ver stiff to remove and replace. I feared I had destroyed the threads in the head.
It looks as if the steel insert had been sealed with some sort of white plumbers compound. I guess I will do the same when I replace it permanently.
