I easily put 850 seats in my 544. The only mistake I made was not taking the back seat also. The 850 has the advantage that the passenger seat folds.
At the junk yard I found an 850 with intact windows - the seats are cloth - with no AC, leather may be a problem summer or winter.
I saw an article on narrowing a bench seat - cut some out of the middle. I have a nice rear seat out of a 240 wagon - it folds.
My driver's seat is still electric - I have not wired it in yet, I hook the controls to the battery directly - I am the only driver anyway.
I disabled the side airbag but later found out I could have retained it.
There is 2 to 3 inches if height adjustment in the base of of the 850 seat.
I removed the mounts from the bottom of the 850 seats and had 3 inch by 1/2 inch aluminum bars welded ace\ross the seat base - I lost 1/2 inch of height I wish I had them welded flush with the bottom of the seat base.
I removed the sliders from the 544 and cut a piece of 1/4 inch plywood to use as a template, I mounted the plywood to the car using the existing holes and worked out where to mount the bars. then I cut away some plywood at the front and rear to provide foot room.
I copied the template onto 1/4 inch aluminum.
Woo Woo - I have comfy Volvo seats in my 544!
