Irregular belt noise on 240 1991 200

Hi,

Since you replaced the fuse to the AC, It would seem more logical that the magnetic clutch, that’s in behind the AC compressor pulley, may have shorted from being overheated by current until the fuse blew out!

The blown fuse is the only thing pointing to the AC and you didn’t say if you lost the belt off of the pulley?
it may have wrapped around several times and whacked the wire that connects up to the AC.

The AC belt may have taken on some of the heat, but a magnetic coil, will stink too!
It has coils of wire that are coated or in cased with a resin that cause a nasty smell.
Much like a hot or overheated electric motor will do!

Another thing that can stink like a rubber belt is the Harmonic Crankshaft pulley.
It drives all of accessories and will make a rumbling noise because too!
It has rubber in the middle like a sandwich.
It could keep producing a burning rubber smell as well!
Some people paint a line or use chalk temporarily, from the center out and across outer edges to see if it’s slipping around.

Paint works for a longer time reference.
It gives up to a casual look down, while lumbering on scenic tour under the hood, along a beltway instead of driving on one! (:)
You might want to use a glove box vanity mirror an old used rear view mirror for its length and narrowness. (:-).
The vanity mirror comes in handy too, for the not so vain men in the world, who can work on cars with a grease rag!

[(:-)

Phil
