Rear brake cylinders - 1962 PV544 444-544

Before you start sourcing brake parts, you should make sure you know which exact rear brakes you have.

Most people aren't aware that Volvo used multiple manufacturers and different versions from some of them for their rear wheel drum brakes and they all can be installed on any Volvo cars that Volvo sold in the US that came with rear drum brakes.

The easiest way to start is to identify how the brakes are adjusted.

If it has 2 hex heads, 1 on each side of the backing plate it's an early Wagner.

If it has a opening at the bottom of each backing plate to adjust a star wheel, it's 1 of the later Wagner versions.

If it has a square headed adjuster at the bottom of each backing plate, then it's a Girling.

If there's no opening at all for adjusting the brakes, then it's a late Girling.
