NEVER USE RTV on an engine, ESPECIALLY where oil is involved. I have my own concoction, but the old Permatex Number 2 is the GO & I delete the timing cover, rear seal housing & distributor gaskets in favour of Purple Loctite Gasket Eliminator. Tappet cover, after panelbeating, warrants P2 on the gasket to tappet cover side, a thin coat of grease on the head side of the gasket.
